The Moravian Karst, Czech Republic, is the most developed karst area with the greatest number of surface and underground karst phenomena. At the same time, it belongs to a region of the Czech Republic that is exceptionally rich in history and culture. The scenic landscape, interwoven with deep canyons, is a refuge for a wide range of animals and plants, and many endemic species have been described here. A number of authors have devoted themselves (both in word and image) to this small part of the Czech Republic north of Brno for centuries. They were clergymen, artists, historians, speleologists, geographers, geologists and experts in other scientific disciplines. A number of guides, extensive descriptive monographs (both popular and specialist), photographic publications and thousands of brochures and articles have been written about the Moravian Karst. Still, new contexts and insights are emerging in many fields. Cave explorers discover new caves or parts of already known caves, archives containing often neglected historical documents, maps and photographs. Moravský Kras: V Ponorné Řece Času carries readers from the beginning of its creation to the present. It covers milestones, historical facts and the tireless work of several generations of scholars. It also presents a number of unpublished or little published materials.
Summary in Czech:
Moravský kras je naše nejlépe vyvinuté krasové území s největším počtem povrchových a podzemních krasových jevů. Zároveň patří k výjimečným oblastem České republiky s bohatou historií a kulturou. Byli to mastičkáři, duchovní, umělci, historici, speleologové, geografové, geologové či odborníci dalších vědních disciplín. O Moravském krasu tak vznikla řada průvodců, obsáhlých popisných populárních i odborných monografií, fotografických publikací a tisíce separátů, brožur a článků. Přibližuje základní milníky postupného vývoje, historická fakta i neúnavnou práci několika generací badatelů. Představuje také řadu dosud nepublikovaných či málo publikovaných materiálů.
