About this book

The purpose of this book is to acquaint readers with the seaweeds of the Red Sea and their habitat. In this Biblical Sea we find them all: common algae and rare algae, parasitic algae, and algae living in symbiosis with fungi, corals and clams. Some are local and endemic to this region, others are newcomers. Since Red Sea waters are very clear, seaweeds can live at great depths. Information given comprises Latin name(s), description, annotation (e.g. reproductive structures, male structures), distribution, and one coloured photograph for each species. The volume is completed by a systematic index, glossary, and a general index.
