About this book
Critical scientific review of oyster management in Chesapeake Bay, first published in 1891. Since the book was first published the oyster harvest has dropped from 15 million bushels a year at the turn of the century to less than 100,000 in 1993. Many of the laws criticised by Brooks are still in place today.

His gem of a book, 'The Oyster', now reissued, sounded a timely warning. Few listened.--'New Scientist'
