A comprehensive all-colour pictorial reference book showing virtually all the important cultivated plants originating in tropical and subtropical climates, arranged by families. Interspersed habitat photos show some of the plants in their natural surroundings. A particular feature of the book is the assignment of each plant to specific climate or temperature backgrounds, as a guide to optimum temperature and moisture requirements. The descriptive text is kept to a minimum, since the photographs make lengthy descriptions unnecessary. There is also a section on tropical and subtropical fruit. The book includes a botanical terms chart, details of the pronunciation of Latin names, a bibliography, and information on botanical families and their charactersitics. Like its companion volumes Hortica and Exotica, this work is an excellent reference on the subject.
