Part one describes the various native Indian groups of California, their distribution and population before contact with Europeans. Part two is an extensive listing all of all plants, arranged alphabetically, known to have been used by the Indians, what these plants were used for, which part of the plant was used, their uses as dyes, tools, medicines, and methods of preparation.
