About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and French

Comprehensive and beautifully illustrated reference to the killifishes (annual fishes) of tropical west Africa.

The complete text is in both French and English. The introductory chapters present an historical account of the study of the fauna, an outline of the scope and objectives of the work, a geographical sketch of Cameroon, a review of the genus with a key to sub-genera, criteria for the identification of the species, and notes on their ecology, ethology and development.

The bulk of the book presents a detailed, critical description of the sub-genera, species groups and species found in Cameroon, followed by the most recent, frequently unpublished, information on their distribution. Species identification is facilitated by 9 keys which give particular reference to aspects of livery and colouration, and include 2 species and 1 subspecies new to science. The final chapter deals with the biogeography of the genus Aphyosemion in Cameroon.

This superb book has had wide appeal with researchers with an interest in the ichthyofauna of tropical west Africa and the many killiphiles and tropical fish hobbyists specialising in these beautiful fishes.
