The diversified ecological niches like torrential streams, high and low land lakes, hot springs, reservoirs, thick forests coupled with highly specialised and complex environmental and physical factors like temperature, humidity and availablity of oxygen at different altitudes have greatly influenced the diversity and distribution of fauna.

This book lists 2542 species, incl. protozoa, nematodes, annelids, arthropods, insects and vertebrates.
