Around the world, sustainable management and conservation practices aim to conserve and minimise the loss of biodiversity found in wetlands. However, in India the documentation of the various animal forms present in these wetlands does not exist, and only a partial list of taxa is known. This book provides a baseline of information retrieved from earlier literature on the diversity of animals (Protozoa to Mammalia) from the Ramsar wetlands of India. The book documents a total of 6478 species and their distribution in the Ramsar wetlands of India. The authors have tried to provide the information available on the species present in the wetlands and the surrounding riparian zone. The report is their endeavour to document the wetland diversity and to present the richness these wetlands possess. This is just a preliminary effort and it is expected that future research will update the present book as well as increase the present number of species, since many faunal groups are unexplored. The authors have attempted to add all literature available online and offline from which the species list in the present book has been compiled.
