About this book

The Deccan plateau is a peninsular landmass dominating the south-central region of the Indian subcontinent that formed as layers of lava grew and cooled. Because of its largest forests, it is a biologically diverse area and has been designated one of India's Biogeographic Zones. This book brings together information gathered by the Zoological Survey of India during periodic surveys done over several decades. It contains a detailed list of 15,541 species of various organisms, ranging from protozoa to mammals, which are covered in 60 chapters, describing their distributions over various biogeographic provinces and states.
