The Fleurieu Peninsula is located about 40 minutes south of Adelaide in South Australia and stretches approximately 140 km along the coast. This field guide is designed to help visitors recognise and appreciate the wonderful diversity of wildlife the region has to offer. The animals covered are those most commonly encountered. This book is a valuable reference for those visiting the area.
The swamps of the Fleurieu Peninsula were listed as critically endangered in 2003, and less than four per cent of the original swampland remains today.
Since 2021, a group that includes Aboriginal elders and scientists has been documenting Aboriginal cultural knowledge for the Fleurieu Peninsula swamps at Yundi. There are also efforts for rewilding of the peninsula, and a seed bank has been created for this.
