This volume is a continuation of the Flora do Brasil em Imagens series, which had its first volume released in December 2021. It is a collaborative editorial photographic project, where professionals and nature lovers are coming together to compose what has to be the largest collection of photographic guides to identify native plants ever published in Brazil.

This is volume 2, which means that other volumes will be published over the next few years, covering many other native species, from the most diverse corners of the country.

The main objective of the work is to provide easy recognition of plants, through descriptions and images, helping in the process of botanical identification and encouraging this exciting activity, which is the study and observation of Brazil's flora. Indirectly, it aims to popularize knowledge of these species, thus seeking to make people aware of the importance of preserving and rationally using the fields, savannas and forests of Brazil.

More than 150 native species are presented here, with botanical descriptions prepared by forestry engineer Daniel Saueressig and images by nature photographer Geraldo M. Pereira and biologist Paulo Schwirkowski. Numerically, it is still a modest approach, in relation to the large number of native plants that exist in Brazil, but a "start" in the popularization and dissemination of knowledge about the biodiversity of Brazil's beautiful and rich flora.

Each species is presented on two pages, one with textual information and the other with photographs. On the descriptive page, the currently valid scientific name, botanical family, popular names, synonyms, morphological description, data on ecology, uses and geographic distribution are provided, in addition to a distribution map.

The species are grouped by their respective botanical family and are presented in alphabetical order, by family, genus and species, regardless of higher hierarchical levels. The taxonomic nomenclature follows the APG IV classification. Each scientific name is followed by the name of the respective author, in abbreviated form, following the international standard of botanical nomenclature. The popular names, very variable, that people gave and that were passed from generation to generation through popular culture, are presented together in the text of each species, and at the end of the book to make up an "Index", which allows easy consultation even by laymen. Botanical synonyms refer to scientific names used in the past and which, due to taxonomic revisions carried out over the years, ended up being replaced by another valid name.

The written part was prepared by the first author, based on personal experience, analysis of herbarium material, consultation of numerous scientific articles and specialized bibliographies, all of which are duly referenced at the end of this book. The geographic distribution map is based on the 6 Brazilian biomes, defined by IBGE in 2004: Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Pampa and Pantanal. The occurrence points, plotted on the map, are based on collections of the respective species available in herbariums and virtual databases, as well as on the authors' experience. The photographs were obtained by the co-author, directly in the field and in natural lighting conditions, always trying to portray the main identifying elements.

It should be noted that the next volumes in the series will follow the same pattern as this book, with 150 different species presented in each.

O presente volume é uma continuação da série Flora do Brasil em Imagens, que teve seu primeiro volume lançado em dezembro de 2021. Trata-se de um projeto fotográfico editorial colaborativo, onde profissionais e amantes da natureza estão se unindo para compor, o que amanhã há de ser, a maior coletânea de guias fotográficos de identificação de plantas nativas já publicada no Brasil.

Este é o volume 2, o que significa que outros volumes serão publicados ao longo dos próximos anos, abrangendo muitas outras espécies nativas, dos mais diversos recantos do país.

A obra tem como objetivo principal proporcionar um fácil reconhecimento das plantas, através de descrições e imagens, auxiliando no processo de identificação botânica e incentivando essa apaixonante atividade, que é o estudo e a observação da nossa flora. Indiretamente visa popularizar o conhecimento das nossas espécies, buscando com isso sensibilizar as pessoas sobre a importância de preservar e usar de forma racional nossos campos, savanas e florestas brasileiras.

São apresentadas aqui mais 150 espécies nativas, com descrições botânicas elaboradas pelo engenheiro florestal Daniel Saueressig e imagens do fotógrafo da natureza Geraldo M. Pereira e do biólogo Paulo Schwirkowski. Numericamente ainda é uma abordagem modesta, em relação ao grande número de plantas nativas que existem no Brasil, porém um grande “start” na popularização e difusão do conhecimento sobre a biodiversidade da nossa bela e rica flora.

Cada espécie continua sendo apresentada em duas páginas, sendo uma de informações textuais e outra de fotografias. Na página descritiva, são fornecidos o nome científico atualmente válido, família botânica, nomes populares, sinonímias, descrição morfológica, dados sobre ecologia, usos e distribuição geográfica, além de um mapa do Brasil com indicação visual de sua ocorrência.

As espécies estão agrupadas pela respectiva família botânica e são apresentadas em ordem alfabética, por família, gênero e espécie, indiferente de níveis hierárquicos superiores. A nomenclatura taxonômica foi organizada segundo a classificação de APG IV. Os nomes populares, muito variáveis, que as pessoas deram e que foram passando de geração para geração através da cultura popular, são apresentados junto no texto de cada espécie e no final do livro compõem um “Índice Remissivo”, que permite fácil consulta até mesmo por leigos. As sinonímias botânicas, referem-se aos nomes científicos usados no passado e que, por força de revisões taxonômicas realizadas ao longo dos anos, acabaram sendo substituídos por outro nome válido.

A parte escrita foi elaborada pelo primeiro autor, a partir de experiências pessoais, análise de materiais herborizados, consulta de inúmeros artigos científicos e bibliografias especializadas, devidamente referenciadas ao final deste livro. As fotografias foram obtidas pelos coautores, diretamente no campo e em condições naturais de luminosidade, procurando sempre retratar os principais elementos identificativos. A relação de espécies e respectivos fotógrafos está apresentada no Apêndice, ao final do livro. O mapa de distribuição geográfica é baseado nos 6 biomas brasileiros, definidos pelo IBGE em 2004: Amazônia, Caatinga, Cerrado, Mata Atlântica, Pampa e Pantanal. Os pontos de ocorrência, plotados no mapa, baseiam-se em coleções das respectivas espécies disponíveis em herbários e bancos de dados virtuais, bem como na experiência dos autores.

Cabe ressaltar que os próximos volumes da série seguirão o mesmo padrão deste livro, com 150 diferentes espécies apresentadas em cada.
