About this book

Volume 18 of the Flora of Australia contains 9 families, 45 genera and 322 species. They are spread over a wide geographical and ecological range, from coastal mangroves to alpine herbs, from desert plants to submerged aquatics.

Two families, Halagoraceae and Thymeleaceae, each contain over 100 species in Australia, the latter family including Pimelea (banjines or rice flowers). Onagraceae includes willow herb and evening primrose, while Combretaceae includes the widespread genus Terminalia.

Other families in the Volume are Podostemaceae (aquatic plants), Sonnerataceae (mangroves), Lythraceae (tropical and temperate herbs and shrubs), Melastomataceae (tropical plants often with colourful flowers) and Gunneraceae (1 bogland species in Tasmania).

This volume covers 9 families, 45 genera and 322 species.

17 new taxa are described, as well as some new combinations and lectotypifications.
