This fascicle deals with the family Xyridaceae which is pantropical, with 5 genera and ± 260 species of which 240 are in Xyris. The family is most diverse in South America, and extending into the warm temperate parts of North America; with ± 25 species in East Africa. It is a medium-sized family of mostly small annual or perennial herbs.
