The contributions to this volume are classified into two parts. Part one deals with geotechnical engineering while part two relates to geonevironmental engineering. Part one contains seven keynote lectures and 31 papers on: engineering properties of soils and rocks, foundation engineering; soil reinforcement; soil improvement and stabilization; problematic soils; dams and embankments; and groundwater. Part two contains two keynote lectures and 17 papers on: land filling; barrier system; soil pollution; soil contamination; sewage and wastewater. Under each theme, a variety of important issues in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering is discussed including: stress-strain behaviour of soils and rocks; anisotropy, problematic soils; shallow and deep foundations; dams; embankments; soil reinforcements; soil improvement; soil stabilization; landfill design; barrier system; soil pollution; soil treatment; sewage water treatment; groundwater pollution; and so on.
