About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish

This guide includes 25 genera and 99 native species (plus one that could become naturalized) of Gesneriaceae from Costa Rica, one of the most showy flowering plant families in the neotropics. Each species includes a description, distribution, phenological notes and diagnostic remarks and are illustrated with color photographs. Furthermore, the introductory section includes notes on their taxonomic and natural histories (e.g., pollination, dispersal, medicinal uses). Dichotomous keys for their identification are included at the end.

Because of the similarities of species with Nicaragua and Panama, this field guide will be useful for identifying most species in these countries as well.
