About this book

Language: English

This field guide is aimed at the identification and further study of amphibians and reptiles in the Indian state of Punjab. The species accounts in this book cover more than 50 species of amphibians and reptiles together. This herpetological work is the first of its kind from the region. Many species discussed in this book are also found in the adjoining states/union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, and even in neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. This field guide will be helpful in studying the herpetofauna of these regions as well. An annotated checklist of the herpetofauna of the state of Punjab has been included in the book. A section with suggested reading contains authentic literature sources cited or consulted covering taxonomy, systematics, ecology, biogeography, and natural history of amphibians and reptiles. Each species account includes the scientific name, common name, taxon authority, measurements, and a concise description of ecology.
