About this book

The Fylde is a coastal plain in west Lancashire covering an area of 500 km2. Away from a densely populated urban strip along the coast, including the towns of Lytham St Annes, Blackpool and Fleetwood, it is mostly rural with a scattering of small towns and villages. The Ribble Estuary forms the southern boundary, the River Conder to the north and the River Wyre flows through the area.

Accounts for all of the 122 hoverfly species found in the area highlight habitat preferences, distribution status, adult flight periods and other points of interest. Tetrad-based distribution maps are also included, together with a selection of colour photographs of common and/or easily identifiable species.
