Lichens du Québec Nordique is the first Québécois book on these lichenized fungi, fascinating and little-known organisms. Generally resulting from a symbiotic association between a fungus and an algae, lichens colonize many substrates and play an important ecological role in several boreal, subarctic and arctic ecosystems.

More than 250 species of macrolichens and several species of microlichens from northern Quebec are botanically described. Many of them are also present in southern Quebec. The book includes an introductory chapter covering various aspects of lichens such as morphology, their role in the ecosystem, their use, their harvest and their identification. Each species is accompanied by high-quality photos, a distribution map and a detailed description of the thallus morphology and the mode of reproduction. A photographic identification key and a dichotomous key are presented and are used to identify each taxon. A glossary of terms specific to lichens is also present to facilitate the reading of the book.

Plus de 250 espèces de macrolichens et plusieurs espèces de microlichens du Québec nordique sont décrits botaniquement. Bon nombre d’entre eux sont aussi présents dans le Québec méridional. L’ouvrage comprend un chapitre introductif couvrant divers aspects des lichens tels que la morphologie, leur rôle dans l’écosystème, leur utilisation, leur récolte et leur identification. Chaque espèce est accompagnée de photos de grande qualité, d’une carte de répartition et d’une description détaillée de la morphologie du thalle et du mode de reproduction. Une clé d’identification photographique et une clé dichotomique sont présentées et servent à l’identification de chaque taxon.
