About this book

Language: Hungarian with English summaries

This book is a considerably revised edition of Sesiidae Fauna of Hungary by the same author, in 2017, which is now out of print.

The new Atlas of the Sesiidae of Hungary contains comprehensive information on all Hungarian species of this Lepidoptera family of day-flying moths. All the many taxonomic, biological, and distributional changes in recent years are included. Introductory chapters comprise a short historical outline and brief information on morphology, and biology. Keys to all Hungarian genera and species are provided. The main part of the book presents a systematic survey of all Hungarian species. Diagnostic morphological characters, bionomics, and distribution of each species are shortly described. For each species line drawings of male and female genitalia are given, for some species also other diagnostic characters. The geographical distribution is illustrated on maps. The book is illustrated with 46 excellent colour plates. The text pages include nearly 200 illustrations in pictures and line drawings to help with species identification.

The new Atlas of the Sesiidae of Hungary will be an important manual for anyone working with this very interesting and well-defined Lepidoptera family. It will serve as a tool not only for identification, but also for future research in biology, distribution, and taxonomy as well as conservation of the Hungarian and European Sesiidae species. A new feature of the book is that the descriptions of each species are also available in English. The highly detailed colour illustrations of species are useful for species identification in all countries. Such comprehensive identification illustrations for Sesiidae species have not been produced in Europe.
