About this book

Language: Chinese with scientific nomenclature and English "about the editor"

A major work on the Chinese Lepidoptera. Following an introduction, it describes 1853 subspecies and 1233 species of Chinese Rhopalocera in 368 genera, including 41 species and 43 species new to science. Preliminary chapters cover the research history of Chinese butterflies, their systematics position, structure, scales and wing colouration patterns, biology, distribution, nomenclature and taxonomic methods, and family classification, including a key to the families, which are listed systematically. The species and subspecies are then described and illustrated in colour. A synopsis of new taxa is given (in English). Post compilation notes and indexes of Chinese and scientific names are also included. The two volumes come in a slipcase.
