In this collection approximately 200 herbarium specimens of macroalgae are photographed, based on a herbarium at the University of Cologne, which was collected by Dr. Karl-Heinz and Dr. Gerlinde Linne von Berg in feld excursions to Brittany and the West Mediterranean sea beginning in the end of the 1970s. Additional information is given for each macroalgal specimen depicted: actual name based on “Algaebase”, additional scientifc information about life cycles, geographic distribution, location in vertical profle of the intertidal region, main features of the three large classes of macroalgae, endosymbiotic origin of algae, industrial use, and physiological and morphological adaptations to specifc habitats.

The pictures and texts are not arranged taxonomically. A glossary with technical terms is included in the back. This art book is limited to 150 copies, which have been individually signed and numbered.
