Lush green forests and rolling hills epitomize the natural beauty of the Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Western India. Situated in the foothills of the Sahyadri mountain range, the Union Territory is blessed with a rich repository of natural wealth. The major tree species are teak, khair, mahua, sadad, biyo, shisharn and haidu. Undisturbed forest areas in the northern part of the Union Territory, Umerqui, Bonta, Luhari and the Central areas especially near Satmalla and the Damanganga Reservoir are home to species like leopard, jungle cat, jackal, wild boar, mongoose, hare, hyena, etc. Endangered reptiles like the saw-scaled viper, Russell's viper, common cobra, python etc. are commonly found here. These forest tracts and adjoining water bodies are also home to a great variety of birds.
