About this book

Language: Japanese, with bilingual genus descriptions in English and Japanese

This book profiles all known Papilionidae species and illustrates them with full-colour photographs, with some species illustrated here for the first time (e.g., Byasa mukoyamai, Lamproptera paracurius, and Graphium (Pazala) wenlingae). Profiles include forewing length, rarity, habitat, living altitude and distribution. Double-page spreads allow comparison of plates and descriptions of relatives. The genera descriptions are written in Japanese and English and include research history, references, foodplants, behaviour (life history) and the latest information such as DNA analysis. Distribution maps of 7 species groups are illustrated. The descriptions of some species contain new knowledge about mimicry obtained from field studies (e.g., Papilio (Achillides) hoppo and Papilio (Heraclides) pelaus), other descriptions contain new knowledge about life history and/or foodplants (e.g., Papilio (Eleppone) natewa and Papilio (Chilasa) paradoxa).
