The Eco Pine Marten Den MK2 has been designed to provide a perfect nesting site for pine martens, with an internal chamber carefully engineered to provide enough space for the animals and their bedding material. Constructed from chew-resistant, non-toxic, eco-friendly recycled and recyclable eco plastic and stainless steel screws for longevity, it is fully windproofed and secure. Designed with practicality in mind it is extremely light in comparison to other boxes on the market, allowing for positioning on smaller trees with only rope needed to hold it in place (no fixings required). The removable lid can be hung by the side of the box for easy monitoring, although the design allows for thermal imaging to be used for minimal disturbance.
Previously thought to be extinct in England until as recently as 2011, Pine Martens are extremely rare and fully protected under UK law. Through careful conservation efforts and reintroduction programs they are making a gradual comeback in our countryside. Den boxes are known to be a successful conservation tool, having been used in projects in Scotland and Northern England.
