About this book

Provides biologists with a user-friendly, non-technical introduction to the basics of statistics and includes applications and case studies for use in the laboratory. The first edition, published in 1985, was the 5th most recommended statistics textbook in UK biology departments - since then, the way in which people perform statistical calculations has changed. Many now use computer software packages instead of a calculator or looking up probability values in statistical tables. This new edition therefore includes examples from the two main packages used in undergraduate teaching, MINITAB and Excel and also provides brief details of other packages, where appropriate.

Contents

A Simple Experiment in Pipetting. How to Condense the Bulkiness of Data. Are Those Differences Significant? More About Measurement Differences. Awkward-Measurement Data. How to Deal with Count Data. How to Deal with Proportion Data. Correlation and Regression. Dose-Response Lines and Assays. References. Additional Reading. Appendices. Index.
