About this book

This book is a superb identification guide for Liguus, a genus of large tropical air-breathing land snails, and it covers the numerous species, subspecies, forms and varieties of these mollusks occurring in Cuba, Florida & Hispaniola. It is the first book ever done that illustrates with superb photographs many of these shells with pictures of the living animals as well as their shells. But the book is far greater than simply being an identification guide. Its ten chapters contain information on the history of the study of these snails, their taxonomy, and their palaeological history and phylogeny, a study of their migration, their biology and ecology, and all other aspects of these shells and our interest in them as collectors and as malacologists.

The book includes a CD-ROM with the appendixes and bibliography and a transparent sheet that can be placed on the plates with shells and provides labels.
