About this book

Iran supports some 8000 plant species and is one of the major centres of endemism in this part of the world. To prepare a basic species list for the country, data were obtained from the literature, particularly from the Flora Iranica and the Flora of Iran (written in Persian). The nomenclature for the taxa is mainly based on the Flora Iranica, and no synonymy has been used. Data which were derived from herbarium specimens and field surveys helped the authors to test each individual species against the lUCN 1994 Red List categories. As well as species status on the basis of these categories, relevant information about life form, distribution and habitat of the species are given in this book. The altitude ranges do not exactly define maximum and minimum, but are just derived from the collected locations.
