About this book

Please note: the large-format version of the guide (173 × 246 mm vs. the original 148 × 210 mm) was published April 2014 and allows for better appreciation and easier use of the plates. It does not contain any new or updated information compared to the original 4th edition published in 2011.

SASOL Birds of Southern Africa remains the region's most comprehensively illustrated and trusted field guide. The fourth edition has been improved by the addition of group introductions, calendar bars showing species' occurence and breeding periods, a 'how to use SASOL Birds of Southern Africa' section, and sonograms depicting the calls of tricky bird groups. The newly designed plates are meticulously illustrated, with labels pinpointing key differentiating features. Distribution maps show the relative abundance of a species in the region and also indicate resident or migrant status.
