Award-winning author-photographer Boyd Norton draws upon his extensive experiences and photographs of the Serengeti ecosystem, including the Serengeti National Park, Kenya's Masai Mara, and Ngorongoro Crater. Using thrilling firsthand accounts and experiences, Serengeti: The Eternal Beginning captures the history, people, animals, and the great migration that makes this one of the most fascinating and special places in the world. Norton, world renowned as both a photographer and wilderness activist, highlights the preservation of the Serengeti while his vibrant and compelling photographs transport readers to the mystical and magical Serengeti.
Boyd Norton travels extensively to document the world's wild places and environmental issues, a specialty he has pursued as a photographer and writer for more than forty-five years. For most of his photographic and writing career, Norton has devoted a great amount of time to conservation issues and the preservation of wilderness and wildlife worldwide. Among his many awards, he received commendation from the Environmental Protection Agency, presented by Robert Redford, for his "important, exciting environmental photography and writing." Norton was also selected as one of the forty most influential nature photographers from around the globe by Outdoor Photography Magazine (UK). Norton's articles and photo essays have appeared in several major magazines, including National Geographic, Time, and Condé Nast Traveler. Norton is the author-photographer of sixteen books. When he's not in the wilds of Borneo, Siberia, or Africa, he calls Evergreen, Colorado, home. He lives with his wife Barbara and two Asian leopard cats.
"Boyd Norton has captured the magic of this ancient and majestic ecosystem."
- Dr. Jane Goodall
"Preserving the Serengeti is as much about saving our humanity, our link to nature and our own ancient past, as it is about stopping an environmental tragedy. Boyd's book Serengeti covers it all very well."
- Richard Engel, Chief Foreign Correspondent, NBC News.
"What manner of insanity would lead us to destroy our own cradle. That is the Serengeti. And its richness and wonder are under great threat. Boyd Norton's book, Serengeti, shows us this magical land in all its splendor, and demonstrates how we might better know it and preserve it".
- Ed Begley, Jr., actor, eco-activist
"Boyd Norton's exquisite images of the Serengeti and Ngorongoro shock us back into East Africa's 'eternal beginnings,' its thundering migrations, and the nourishment of its stillness. This book is a gift, a piece of hope. Grab it now."
- Gretel Ehrlich, Author of The Solace of Open Spaces
"A pictorial and poetic tour de force."
- Kathi Anderson, Executive Director, Walden Woods Project, The Thoreau Institute
