Books  Ornithology  Birds of Australasia

Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds (HANZAB)

This major new work will, when completed, cover all species (including those recently extinct) occurring in Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica, and in the Australian and New Zealand dependencies and subantarctic islands. It will be produced in seven volumes, and will be the most authoritative and complete handbook of birds for the region.

Each species account includes notes on field identification, habitat, distribution, movements, food, voice, social organization and behaviour, breeding and plumage. The illustrations show developmental and seasonal changes in colour of plumage and bare parts, and the maps show distribution both within and beyond the range of the Handbook. Numerous diagrams illustrate posture and behavioural traits, and sonagrams of important calls are included.
