About this book

This book describes the history of spider and harvestmen recording in Yorkshire, with distribution maps for spiders (431 spp.) and harvestmen (26 spp.). It provides, for the first time, insights into the fauna associated with Yorkshire’s varied landscapes, from the remote uplands of the Bowland Fells, the landscape made famous by Charlotte Brontë, and the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks frequented by tourists and naturalists alike.

Yorkshire’s urban landscapes, from gardens and associated green spaces, are also described, collectively providing a detailed breakdown of the county’s fauna based on the environmental setting. All are illustrated throughout with geospatial data and relevant maps. While the book is aimed at the arachnid enthusiast, its content will be of interest to those who have a more general curiosity in invertebrate natural history, or who take a broader interest in Yorkshire or northern England’s biodiversity.
