Winner of the 'Interactive Adult Learning Award' at the Learning on Screen Awards 2003. This field trip consists of a series of virtual activities and is set in the Teign Valley in Devon. These activities are accompanied by a comprehensive resources file, which makes extensive use of maps, spreadsheet data, QuickTime panoramas and field guides covering the floral and fauna of the catchment. Data on the DVD includes that provided by the UK Environment Agency, Meteorological Office, British Geological Survey and Soil Survey of England and Wales. Each scientific activity draws on this extensive dataset and is guided by a specialist in the field. Video sequences and interactive exercises are used to teach the basics of observation, data collection, data analysis and scientific interpretation. The DVD-ROM is self-contained with 13 individual activities and incorporates approximately 100 minutes of video. The estimated total study time to work through all the activities is slightly over 20 hours. Technical information: The "Teign Valley Virtual Field Trip" DVD-ROM is designed for use on a PC equipped with a DVD drive running Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP.
