About this book

Language: French with bilingual summary in English and French and English diagnoses

The beetle subtribe Megacephalina has been reorganized by raising seven taxa previously considered as subgenera to genus rank: Megacephala Latreille, Metriocheila Thomson, Grammognatha Motschoulsky, Phaeoxantha Chaudoir, Pseudotetracha Fleutiaux, Australicapitona Sumlin, Tetracha Westwood. This modification of the status makes official the situation already followed de facto by almost all specialists and workers on the Megacephala.

The genus Tetracha is divided into 7 subgenera as follows: Microtetracha (1 taxon), Tetracha (s. str.) (41 taxa), Neotetracha (57 taxa), Paratetracha (6 taxa), Apterotetracha (3 taxa), Prototetracha (1 taxon), Oblongotetracha (1 taxon). The fundamental characters used to distinguish these new subgenera are: habitus, mandible structure, elytral sculpture and aedeagus; some additional characters are also used: labrum, antennae, elytral apex and body colour.

The total number of taxa treated in this revision is 110 of which 94 are full species and 16 are subspecies. Among them, 33 are newly described. In addition, 8 species have been described since the publication of the most recent catalogue. The status of numerous other taxa is modified.
