About this book

The Sefton coast, which stretches for 12 miles between Southport and Waterloo in the county of Merseyside, North-West England, is well known for its rare flora and fauna such as dune helleborines and natterjack toads, but is also home to less well-known richness of beetles, including a large number of local specialities, in particular the Northern dune tiger beetle and two of the UKs most enigmatic dung beetles, namely Ammoecius (=Aphodius) brevis and Rhysothorax rufus. This collation of records spanning the last 150 years of recording hts the national importance of this dune system for nature conservation and confirms its national importance for numerous dune habitat specialist beetles.
