About this book

A thoroughly revised and updated edition of this important work, originally published in three volumes between 1964 and 1972. It is a comprehensive review of the 148 species of terrestrial wild mammal found in the Arabian peninsula, including Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Sinai, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Kuwait and the Gulf States.
This work covers every recorded species, including those recently described, and subspecies new to the region and science. The systematics have been reviewed and synonymities amended, and the distribution maps redrawn. For each Order, there are full identification keys, with detailed descriptions of the individual species, illustrated with photographs and line drawings. In addition, the ecology and biology of each species is discussed in the light of the considerable advances made in the last 40 years of research. A major contribution to the mammal literature.
