Language: Chinese with scientific nomenclature

This book is the result of a huge and complicated project to set up a world butterfly classification and naming system in the Chinese language. For each species is included : the meaning of the Latin name; morphological features; geological location; and Chinese custom when the butterfly is named in Chinese. The book is in accordance with regulations by the examination committee of the Chinese Academy of Science, and uses the Monograph of Chinese Butterfly as its the blueprint, offering a unified base to name foreign butterflies in Chinese. The book records 17 families, 47 subfamilies, 1700 genera, and 15337 species found worldwide, and records 12 families, 33 subfamilies, 434 genera, and 2233 species of Chinese butterflies.
