This is the first comprehensive book on the stag beetles (family: Lucanidae) of Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Borneo. Furthermore, the author has illustrated more than 200 species of stag beetles in full colour and life size out of the total of 242 species known to occur in this region. The extensive introduction contains a wealth of authoritative information on the natural history of stag beetles including their ecology, behaviour, classification and interrelationships with man. Practical details are given on rearing, and the techniques for setting up and maintaining a collection are described.
Adib Vincent Tung acquired the greater part of his knowledge from observations made during his earlier years when he started his collection of stag beetles and butterflies. Whenever possible, details of their appearance, sexual dimorphism, habitat, biology and range are provided. The result is a guide which will be indispensable both to the casual observer interested in the stag beetle fauna of this region and to the serious entomologist.
