About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Portuguese

This book portrays the nature of Timor-Leste, both underwater and on land. Located between Indonesia and Australia, well within the so-called Coral Triangle, Timor-Leste is one of the youngest countries in the world, after having regained its independence in 2002.

The sea around Timor-Leste reaches depths of more than three thousand metres, and all sorts of underwater habitats, from coral-covered walls to sandy slopes and seagrass meadows can be found along its coast. On land, mountains soar to almost three thousand metres above sea level, and mysterious forests can still be found in many of the remote areas.

Seven years in the making, this book is a testimony to the biodiversity of Timor-Leste and includes photographs of more than 900 species of fish, molluscs, crustaceans and other marine animals, as well as more than 100 species of birds, reptiles and mammals, many of them endemic. It is also an account ofthe experiences, often adventurous, of travelling to some of the most secluded places in this country.

  • Astonishing photographic record!
By Kim 29 Jul 2018 Written for Hardback
Yes, I’m biased having been the author’s dive buddy on many occasions, and because I logged more than 500 dives while visiting and living there between 2003 and 2012. The attention to detail identifying the subjects of his photographs present an extensive reference for divers and bird enthusiasts. His anecdotes and accounts of his experiences make it both entertaining and informative. The book deserves to be held in your hands and appreciated as a hard copy work of art.
