About this book

Language: German

Markus Langenfeld examines how the different developments in forest policy in Costa Rica and Chile can be explained under similar political and economic conditions. As a result of a radical political change, Costa Rica is today regarded as a pioneer of ecological forest policy, which is reflected in growing forest stands and the revaluation of its environmental performance. In Chile, however, sustainability in the forest sector continues to play a subordinate role. The author analyzes institutions, actors and the role of values and beliefs in the forest policy of both countries in order to draw conclusions about the preconditions for sustainable development in Latin America.
