About this book

Wildflowers of Alaska and the Yukon Territory is a field guide to more than 250 wildflowers commonly seen in Alaska and the Yukon. Plants are arranged by plant family, so that closely related plants are grouped together; this arrangement helps the reader become familiar with the characteristics of each plant family, important in correctly identifying an unknown specimen. Each wildflower is described in non-technical terms, with additional information on its typical habitat and traditional uses, if any. Plants known to be poisonous if eaten are also noted. Each wildflower is illustrated with several colour photographs depicting the plant's overall form, and its leaves and flowers. In addition, a line drawing by noted botanical illustrator Eva Melady is provided to highlight important details of the plant. From roadside plants to plants of the high alpine, this new guide will be useful to anyone wanting to discover the great variety of plant life found in these northern latitudes.
