The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition is the most famous and prestigious event of its kind in the world, presenting remarkable photographs that illustrate the precious beauty and diversity of our planet. This special commemorative diary celebrates 60 years of Wildlife Photographer of the Year and each week showcases the overall winning image from one of the past Wildlife Photographer of the Year competitions. Each stunning shot is accompanied by a caption explaining when and where it was taken and the behaviour or biology on display.
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, approaching its 60th year, finds the very best wildlife images taken by the world's top professional and amateur photographers. The most innovative and imaginative photographic images are judged and selected by a panel of experts. The chosen images form an exhibition at the Natural History Museum and elsewhere in the UK every year from the end of October.
