A Life Among Fishes presents Dewees' half century of printing fish and shellfish to full colour (a Japanese art form called gyotaku). We follow his evolution from being exposed and fascinated by gyotaku as a graduate student, to his status now as an internationally recognized master in the field. He documents his journey and growth by sharing fifty years of experiences and adventures. In recent years Dewees has done more writing, and these stories and poems are linked to his art, creating a balance of narrative and aesthetic fluidity.
Chris Dewees has had a passion for fish since childhood. He is currently Marine Fisheries Specialist, Emeritus at the University of California, Davis. Since 1968, he has honed his skills in Japanese fish printing (gyotaku). His works have been featured in many individual and group exhibitions around the world.
