About this book

Language: Italian

The presence and distribution of breeding birds in Italy have changed significantly in recent decades as a consequence of environmental modifications(often induced by humans), and of climatic and cultural changes. This is what emerges from this new atlas, which comes almost four decades after the first one, which covered the period 1983-1986; it is the result of an enormous amount of field research, which has involved thousands of observers, volunteers and professional ornithologists, engaged in one of the most significant examples of participatory science in Italy. The results of this great collective work show how the situation is different than in the past for many species; some are no longer present, several have instead appeared in recent decades and many of the distribution areas have changed, often significantly so. This volume gives an objective representation, fundamental for the research, planning and conservation of breeding bird species in Italy.
