About this book

Language: Italian

A cosmopolitan species, the Peregrine Falcon is among the birds with the widest distribution in the world; well known among the general public, it has been the subject of numerous scientific studies, texts on falconry and naturalistic narratives. In the 1960s it was in steep decline and at risk of extinction in a large part of its range, mainly due to the massive use of DDT and human persecution. Since the 1980s, the banning of the pesticide, legal protection and a new sensitivity towards nature, in general, have led to the start of a process of recolonization which has brought the Peregrine Falcon away from the brink of extinction, and from being relegated to the most impervious areas it has passed to a species frequently seen in every habitat, even the urban one, which is offering it more and more the possibility of nesting. This volume takes stock of the genetics, distribution and state of health of the peregrine falcon in Italy and also analyses, region by region, aspects such as consistency, distribution, phenology and state of conservation. Some of the photos in this book show all the reproductive habitats in Italy, while others are shots of all the species in the wild.
