Basisboek Veldbiologie invites readers to go into nature on investigations themselves. You will learn how to identify wild plants and animals, how a nature reserve works, but also how to easily do fieldwork yourself. In short, it gives you all the basic knowledge to become a good field biologist.

The book contains a properly grounded introduction to what nature is and in which ways you can think about it and treat it. It also gives an overview of abiotic factors, landscapes, soil species, and hydrological cycles.

But the largest part of this book is a field guide to species. Here, you will find the most common species of fungi, mosses, plants, birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and fishes, with particular attention to ecology and taxonomy, but also how you can participate in research and monitoring. The sea, beach, and coastline are treated separately.
