Volume 6 focuses on the Jurassic fauna (from approximately 200 to 145 million years ago), which consisted mostly of dinosaurs. They received a heavy blow during the mass extinction at the end of the Triassic Period. Many dinosaurs that had remained small and survived flourished in the Jurassic and became the main protagonists on land. In the sea, too, marine reptiles flourished and evolved further. Mammals steadily diversified while remaining small. At the same time, turtles, small reptiles such as lizards, crocodiles  and amphibians such as frogs continued to evolve. Ammonoids rose again after their fall in the Triassic, and, quietly, birds started making their appearance.
