About this book

Language: Spanish

This field guide includes descriptions and photographic material of 85 species of aromatic condiment plants, commonly used in the Rio de la Plata region on the border of Argentina and Uruguay to season, dress, marinate, or flavour foods and beverages. These contents correspond to the results achieved in previous ethnobotanical studies.

Both the plant species and the products obtained from them have been considered, including indigenous, exotic, spontaneous, and adventitious plants, those cultivated in the region, and those that are not cultivated, but whose products are marketed. All of these are used in the daily life of the inhabitants of urban, peri-urban and rural areas of the Río de la Plata region. This volume also contains a general introduction to aromatic plants (used as a seasoning, medicine, or perfume) and appendices that complete the data on the subject.
