This third volume covers 22 subfamilies, 560 genera and 6126 species (including subspecies) of staphylinid beetles recorded in China up to December 31, 2016. The classification system used here mainly follows the Gubei District Beetle List (Second Edition) published in 2015, combined with new relevant literature published in recent years, and information published by Alfred Newton of the Chicago Museum of Natural History, partially modified. For each family, information is provided on affiliation at the levels of super families, families, subfamilies. For each genus information is given on nomenclatural history, accession numbers in catalogues, original citation literature, distribution information, etc. For each species, information given includes the name of the species, type specimen, accession entries, synonyms,  nomenclatural history, original citation literature, and distribution in China and abroad. References and academic names are separately indexed at the end of the book.
