About this book

Medicinal plants contain a large amount of biologically active substances applied both in traditional medicine and as inexhaustible sources of substances for various pharmaceutical industries. In the present volume, numerous molecules of biologically active substances in phytochemical screening have come out of herbal drug experimental base in Tapinanthus globiferus, Catharanthus roseus, Foeniculum vulgare, Terminalia belerica, Olea europea, Vigna unguiculata, Jatropha curcus, Solanum nigrum, Morinda morindoides, Nigella sativa, Zingiber officinale, Ginkgo-biloba etc.

Structurally related compounds of phloroglucinols, phenoxazines, antioxidants and adaptogen plants associated with several enzymes and hemoglobin have been reviewed. Besides, role of natural polysaccharides in treatment and control of diabetes has been elaborated as polysaccharides have also been shown to improve the sensitivity of peripheral cells to circulating insulin. Traditional preparations from Chinese herbs, Congo herbs, Czech Republic herbs, etc are important for pharmacological research and drug development, not only when plant constituents are used directly as therapentic agents, but also as starting materials for the synthesis of drugs or as models for pharmacologically active compounds.
