About this book

The Birdwatcher's Yearbook was originally published by Buckingham Press and, from 2015 onwards, by Calluna Books. From this year onward, ownership has passed to Neil Stratton. This book remains a one-stop shop for up-to-date and verified information for birdwatchers of every skill level and depth of interest.

The 2026 edition has been significantly revised and enlarged:
- 4-colour printing throughout
- Checklist rearranged in AviList 25 order and incorporating the latest BTO population estimates
- A single section for each county. Previously, the entries for the reserves selected for each county and the key individuals and organisations in each county have appeared in separate sections. These have now been combined, so that all the information relating to a particular county is grouped together in one place.
- The number of reserves featured has been increased from just under 400 to around 730. Reserves will be featured in several regions/counties that previously had none. Specifically, Northern Ireland, Herefordshire, the Isle of Man, the Isles of Scilly, and the Channel Islands. In previous editions, the number of reserves featured for Welsh and Scottish counties was much lower than for English ones. This imbalance has been rectified.
- The diary section has been doubled in length and combined with the sunrise/sunset times and tide table. Phases of the moon will now also be shown.
- Specially commissioned paintings of a bird of the year will be reproduced in The Yearbook. In 2026, this will be the Redpoll.
